Low-Cost Spay/Neuter All pets must have a current rabies vaccination and supporting paperwork when the surgery is scheduled. You will not be able to talk to the doctor the day of surgery. If you have medical concerns or need guidance about surgical options you must schedule a regular office visit. Drop off and pick up are on the same day.
Please understand the following: Your dog or cat is going to have general anesthesia and have surgical sterilization performed. Your dog or cat will receive a physical exam and if deemed healthy will have the surgery. If unhealthy, the pet will be returned to you with recommendations and the surgery not performed. All Pets Veterinary Hospital can refuse to do surgery on your pet for any reason. Your pet will be groggy and tired when you take it home. See below for discharge instructions. It is not unusual for your pet to whine and act disoriented for up to 24 hours after surgery. Because of this we recommend that you supervise your pet for this time to monitor its recovery. Post-operative complications can arise if you fail to keep your pet confined to a small crate and limit its activity. If complications arise, you, the owner, are responsible financially for follow-up care. In order to keep costs low, pre-surgical bloodwork, IV catheters and fluids are not offered as additional services. If you are looking for these services, please schedule a regular appointment at All Pets Vet Hospital and the Doctor can discuss these services. You will be offered pain medication to go home for your pet. The cost for this ranges from $15-$35 depending on the size of your pet. DISCHARGE INSTRUCTIONS FOR LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER Your pet was sterilized today. This is considered a major abdominal surgery. It is not unusual for dogs to whine or act disoriented for up to 24 hours surgery. Cats can hide and not want to be touched or be very angry. However, if your cat or dog is breathing heavily or seems extremely lethargic or non-responsive, please call us or your nearest emergency hospital immediately. We recommend Rockingham Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Windham 603-870-9770. It is important to limit your pet's activity for the next 10 days. Do not allow him/her to run, jump, or play roughly. Do not allow him/her to jump on or off furniture or go up or down stairs. When s/he needs to go outside, please keep him/her on a leash at all times. You may need to keep your dog confined in a crate or other indoor enclosure to limit his/her activity. Look at your pet's incision site at least once daily. You may notice some redness, swelling or blood-tinged fluid during the first 24 hours. This is normal. If you notice active bleeding, increased redness or swelling or a whitish discharge at anytime, please call us. Be sure to keep your pet's incision site clean and dry at all times. Never allow your pet to lick or chew at the site. This could cause the incision to open up or become infected. Some pets need to wear an Elizabethan collar or "e-collar" at all times until their incisions have healed (usually 7 to 10 days.) We are offering pain medication to go home. We can give you the cost at pick-up. Give this medication as directed on the label. Offer your pet a small meal this evening if s/he seems hungry. Feed approximately ½ the normal amount of food and water if interested. S/he may not be interested in food, which is fine, they do not need to eat if not interested. S/he should resume the normal feeding schedule tomorrow. If your pet has external sutures, they will need to be removed in 10 days. If you do not already have an appointment for suture removal, please call us. Please remember to REST your pet for 10 days. This is how they heal. Please remember to be cautious around your pet as they may be painful or disoriented while they are healing. It is not unusual for a pet to act abnormal and bite or growl if they are painful or disoriented from the anesthetic drugs. Be careful handling your pet until they are acting normally. Please call us with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your pet's care. With general anesthesia and surgery, complications can arise. Should complications develop you will have the options to treat these complications or not. In order to keep the costs low, no presurgical bloodwork is performed. This may add risk to the procedure because we will not know how well the pet will be able to physiologically tolerate anesthesia. If surgical or anesthetic complications arise and you choose to treat these complications you, the pet owner, will be responsible for the incurred charges. These charges can range from $18-$1000+ depending on the severity of the problem. It is important to leave 2 contact telephone numbers so we can reach you the day of the surgery to discuss complications and associated fees. Be sure to fill out the Authorization for Anesthetic Procedures form and understand your choices. If your pet has an underlying disease, it is possible he/she may die under anesthesia.
